Personal Accident Insurance
What is personal accident cover?
The definiton of personal accident insurance, or personal liability cover, is a type of cover that financially protects you if you are injured, disabled or killed due to an accident. Unlike regular personal accident cover, as part of your travel insurance policy this specifically covers you for accidents that happen on your holiday.
This type of cover is effective once customers are back within the UK following a trip abroad within a 12 month period. Under a travel insurance policy, if a customer loses their sight, a limb or the accident results in a fatality, they are entitled to claim on their policy under medical expenses.
It is important to remember that should you need to make a claim, the medical repercussions associated with this accident cannot stem from an undeclared, pre-existing medical condition.
What am I covered for?
If you have an accident on holiday you are covered for up to 12 months after your trip in the UK. You can claim within this period if the accident has directly caused your injury, disablement or death. You can also claim on your personal accident insurance should you need any further treatment, or happen to be out of work as a result of the accident you had on holiday.
We will pay:
- Up to £15,000 if the accident results in a fatality
- Up to £20,000 if you suffered permanent loss of sight
- Up to £20,000 if you suffered the complete loss or use of limbs
- Up to £20,000 if you suffered disablement
You will not be covered:
- If you have knowingly put yourself at risk unless you were saving yours, or someone else's life
- If your injury is a result of an illness or infection
- If you were under the influence of unprescribed drugs or excessive alcohol consumption
- If the incident involved a vehicle and you did not possess a valid UK driving license or you did not take the required safety precautions
- If you took part in an additional sports activity (see below) for which you did not pay the corresponding extra premium
You will not be able to claim on your personal accident insurance should your injury result from a sport or activity which is not covered on your policy, or an activity which does not have personal liability cover, accidental death and disability cover. Certain activities do not offer this type of cover due to the heightened risk associated with the sport.
For more information please consult your policy documents.
