Our winter sports holiday insurance can be added to your policy at the time of booking. The add-on covers for things like equipment hire, personal equipment cover, for a range of wintry activities.
What does winter sports insurance cover?
You can upgrade your insurance to include winter sports cover – giving you everything you need to make the most of the snowy mountains. The winter sports add on is available for travellers aged 64 and under on both European and worldwide policies. Whether you can add winter sports cover may also depend on what medical conditions you declare.
With our winter sports add-on, you can enjoy a range of activities including skiing, skiing off-piste, snowboarding, outdoor ice-skating, ice-windsurfing and snowmobiling plus many more. Winter sports equipment - we will cover the loss, theft or damage and delay of your equipment. This includes the repair and replacement of your equipment or the cost for hiring new equipment.
Loss of Ski pass - If your ski pass gets lost or goes missing, we will cover the replacement for a new ski pass.
Unused ski pass - If you are unable to ski due to illness or injury, we will cover the proportion of your ski pass that you are unable to use
If you are unable to ski -we will pay a set amount towards the cost of travelling to an alternative resort or the proportion of your ski pass that you are unable to use. Due to avalanche, landslide, not enough snow; or too much snow; or adverse weather.
Cover for emergency medical expenses and repatriation - as a result of an injury whilst taking part in winter sports.

Do I need winter sports travel insurance?
If you're planning to take part in winter sports, you'll need to add our winter sports add-on to your policy to be covered. This add-on provides protection for a range of listed winter sports and related incidents that aren't included in our standard travel insurance.

Can I get winter sports insurance if I have a medical condition?
Yes, you can still add winter sports cover if you have medical conditions declared on your policy. This must be done via our call centre. You can call us on 0333 038 9635.
All pre-existing medical conditions should be declared. If required, we may ask a few questions about your medical conditions. This is to ensure you have the right level of cover for your trip. We can then determine if we can add the winter sports add-on for you.

Are there any age restrictions for ski insurance?
Holiday Extras winter sports add on is only available for those aged under 65.
Am I covered to ski or snowboard off-piste?
You are covered to ski or snowboard off-piste provided you remain within the resort boundaries. Skiing off-piste outside resort boundaries is excluded.
Is winter sports insurance worth it?
If you are taking part in winter sports, then winter sports insurance is definitely worth it, as standard insurance will not usually cover the extra risk that comes with these activities. That said, the decision to buy insurance, and which type to choose, is entirely yours.
Do I need winter sports for Lapland?
Whether you need winter sports cover for Lapland depends on the activities you plan to do. Some activities are covered as standard under your policy, and some require the Winter Sports add-on.
