Declaring your pre-existing medical conditions
It's imperative that you declare any pre-existing medical conditions when booking your travel insurance. Failure to do so may invalidate your claim, should an incident pertaining to your medical condition occur while you're away.
To declare any medical conditions you may have, simply fill in the travel information at the top of this page and you'll be directed to our medical screening process. Follow the questions and answer honestly. This will help us to create the most suitable travel insurance policy for your own personal needs, and aid you should you need to make a claim. Rest assured, your information will be treated with the highest level of care and confidentiality.
Some of the questions you may be asked:
- Have you ever had a diagnosis made of COPD (eg chronic bronchitis or emphysema)?
- How many medicines are prescribed for your breathing condition (count each inhaler as one medicine)?
- How many hospital admissions have you had for your breathing condition in the last year?
- How short of breath do you get when you are walking on the flat?
- Have you ever been prescribed oxygen other than when you are in hospital?
- Have you ever been a smoker?
- In the last year have you had a chest infection or an episode of pneumonia?
- How many episodes have you had that required treatment with antibiotics in the last year?

Tips for travelling with asthma
Discuss your holiday plans with your GP
Your GP may have some advice relevant to your particular needs and can help review your personal asthma action plan. They can also provide you with medical confirmation of your condition to carry with you while on your trip.
Do your own personal research
The NHS and Asthma UK particularly, have useful sections on travelling with asthma.
Carry all your asthma medicines as hand luggage
Take a little extra in case of emergencies and bring a list of all your prescribed medicines. Your GP can provide you with a note confirming your condition, as well as any medications you are currently taking. Keep your medicines in their original packaging.
Contact the airport and your airline in advance
If you need special assistance or equipment during your flight, call the airline before you depart or mention any special requirements when you book your flight. For further information, My Lungs My Life have a great guide for flying with asthma.
Ensure your nebuliser is serviced if you have one
If you travel with a nebuliser, ensure it's been recently serviced. Additionally, don't forget a mains adaptor suitable for the country you're visiting.
