Travelling with lung cancer

For many people living with lung cancer, the prospect of being away from home can seem like a daunting experience. However, it doesn't need to be. Here are some tips for getting you prepared to travel, as well as what to do whilst on holiday:

Speak to your doctor/specialist before travelling
Ensure you consult your doctor and cancer specialist so they can ascertain if you are safe to travel. They will also be able to provide you with a doctor's note if you should need more medication whilst abroad.

Pack enough medication for your trip
To alleviate any potential stresses that may occur trying to secure medication abroad, make sure you take enough medication for the entirety of your trip. Some doctors may recommend you take a little extra too, should you misplace some, or should your flights be delayed.

Carry medication in your hand luggage
It's recommended to carry all of your medication, doctor's notes, and licences for controlled substances, as customs will most likekly need to see then on entry.

Keep your medication in its original packaging
This will make it easier to identify by customs officers.

Carry oxygen if you have breathing issues
Your cancer specialist will be able to advise you if this is necessary, so ensure you enquire about this in your pre-travel consulation.
