Why you need to declare your medical conditions on your travel insurance
Pre-existing medical conditions are not often covered by standard travel insurance policies and in failing to do so, you run the risk of invalidating any claims you need to make that relate to your pre-existing medical condition. As such it's imperative that you declare them when taking out such a policy, and secure a medical travel insurance policy that covers existing medical conditions.
Common conditions that need to be declared
Medical conditions that you will need to declare to claim travel insurance range from high cholesterol to cancer, and also include conditions or diagnoses that have recently occurred, such as a heart attack or stroke. These all present an 'increased risk' of needing medical treatment abroad and as such, are required to be declared when booking travel insurance. Though not immediately obvious, you will also need to declare 'manageable conditions' such as diabetes and asthma, conditions which travel and flying may present adverse effects.
When going through your health screening for medical travel insurance, answer all questions honestly as this will strengthen your claim, should you need to make one.
