Europe’s largest regional airline, Flybe, is introducing an innovative travel insurance policy that gives free redundancy cancellation cover.

The airline’s Book With Confidence guarantee is designed to give peace of mind to anyone booking a holiday who is concerned they may not be able to pay for it if they lose their job.

The free redundancy cancellation cover is available for bookings made in January and covers flights, booking fees, baggage fees, pre-paid car hire, and pre-paid hotels and airport parking. The airline says it will also make sure that travellers receive a full refund of government and airport taxes and charges.

“These are unprecedented times and Flybe wants to do our bit to keep the economy moving. That’s why we’re introducing our completely free redundancy cancellation cover so that consumers can book with us in January secure in the knowledge that if they lose their job before they travel, Flybe will give them a full refund,” explains Flybe chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter.

Flybe says it is introducing redundancy cover in “response to the economic pressures currently faced by everyone in the country and in recognition of job insecurity which is a crucial issue for families and their travel plans in 2009”.

Not everyone will be eligible for the free cover, however. There are some conditions that have to be met, the most notable being that the person insured has to have over two years continuous employment with the same employer.

The airline says that getting refunds in the event of redundancy will be fast and easy. If a person is made redundant between January and the time of travel up until October 24th all they need to do is provide the required documentation to get a full refund.

“Flybe will fund in full the insurance costs through our insurance partner AIG UK Limited and the peace-of-mind guarantee means that if one member of a party on the same booking is made redundant, any or all of the remaining members of that party can receive a refund if they want one,” says Rutter.

“We know that holidays and breaks are important to our passengers and that’s why we’re introducing what we believe is a totally unmatched offer in the aviation world,” he concludes.
