Top Tips for flying from Heathrow

Use online check-in: Most major airlines have moved to online check-in now via their website or very often a simple to use app, they'll now encourage you to check-in online up to 30 days or more before the scheduled departure time of your flight. By checking-in this way you can save time and queuing at Heathrow and have a much more pleasant visit. Remember, when you check-in online you can also print or download your boarding pass to make sure you have everything you need at hand.

Drop your bags early: The earlier you drop your bags the less you'll need to lug them around the airport, so we'd make sure that as soon as you can, you check your bags in. In most cases this is around 2 hours before your flight is due to depart, it's always worth double-checking with your airline in case you can do it any sooner though.

Book your parking in advance: Touring the many car parks of Heathrow looking for a parking space isn't the best way to start your trip, and paying on the day gate rates isn't ideal either. Book your Heathrow parking in advance and not only can you drive straight to the car park you know has a space for you, but you can save money as well!

Getting to Heathrow Airport

By Train: Getting to Heathrow by train is nice and easy, with plenty of options depending where you are coming from. From London Paddington you can catch the Express trains which depart every 15 minutes. You can cath the Elizabeth Line from Central London to Heathrow passing through stations in West London. The Picadilly Line on the London Underground is also an option between London and Heathrow.

By Car: There are different instructions for each terminal at Heathrow:

For Terminal 2 and 3, exit the M4 at Junction 4 or the M25 at Junction 15 and follow the signs. You can use the postcode TW6 1EW for T2 and TW6 1QG for T3.
For Terminal 4, at Junction 14 on the M25 take the A3113 exit and follow the signs for Terminal 4. Use the postcode TW6 3XA.
Terminal 5 is on the Western Perimeter Road with its own separate access road that you can reach from Junction 14 of the M25. If you're driving in from the M4, exit at Junction 4b and follow the M25 south to Junction 14. Use the postcode TW6 2GA for Terminal 5

Drop-off: There are drop-off areas for passengers outside each of the Heathrow Terminals, but please be aware that there is a £5 charge each time you enter the terminal drop-off area.

Pick-up: You'll have to pay to park in the Short Stay or Long Stay car park if you are picking up from Heathrow.

By Bus: There's a variety of options for your bus travel as Heathrow is served by several major bus routes and the Central Heathrow bus station is within walking distance of Terminals 2, 3 and 5. Some of the routes do travel past Terminal 4 too.

Is Terminal 2 the same as Terminal 3?

Heathrow Terminal 2 and Heathrow Terminal 3 are two separate terminals, however they are located quite close together. You can walk between T2 and T3 in around 10 minutes via the pedestrian underpass.
