Holiday Activities For Over 50s in Tenerife

When you're planning a relaxing holiday to Tenerife, there are some obvious things to do. Basking on the beaches, wading in the sea and experimenting with local cuisine are all on the list. At Holiday Extras, we're Tenerife experts and have put together some holiday activities for over 50's – because the island isn't only for youngsters! We've also got some handy airport transfers. Our drivers can meet you at the airport and take you straight to your accommodation.

See the sights

Over 50s should be sure to check out Tenerife's most beautiful outdoor sights. Mount Teide is the most obvious one: it's a dormant volcano and Spain's tallest peak. It's surrounded by a national park and from the top you can see 83 registered constellations at night. In Chacona, the Pyramids of Güímar are ancient Mayan-esque structures. Nobody is 100% sure where they came from, but it's fun to visit and make up your own conspiracy theories.

Hire a car

Hiring a car in Tenerife is the ideal way to view the island. You can see its range of beauty, from the more popular beaches like Playa de la Arena and Playa Jardín to its hidden nooks and crannies – like the coves and natural swimming pools of Mesa del Mar, towards the northern tip. There are also lots of villages to explore: picturesque Garachico on the northern coast and Masca towards the west have plenty of places to people watch with a drink or two.

Take in some shows

When you're no longer interested in the clubbing scene, there's still a lot to do during an evening in Tenerife. Its theatre shows are extremely popular: try Showtime Live in Costa Adeje which puts on regular music and musicals or Pirámide de Arona for traditional flamenco. Look out for Crystals Palace in Las Américas to enjoy late-night comedy and cabaret.

Explore the culture

Learn more about Tenerife's history at some of its inspiring museums. There's the Eduardo Westerdahl Museum of Contemporary Art where you can view 20th century work by Spanish artists, or the Fine Art Museum for pieces from the 16th-20th centuries. At the Museum of Nature and Man, you can explore the Canary Island's natural beauty and see the largest collection of Guanche culture, Tenerife's aboriginal people.

Now that you've got some holiday activities to add to your itinerary, remember to pre-book one of our Tenerife airport transfers. You can choose from a private car or shared shuttle bus to take you reliably to your destination.
