Baggage Allowance

Check-in

How early you need to check in will depend on your airline, so you should check with them. Check-in usually opens three hours before a charter flight and two hours before an international or domestic flight. Check-in usually closes 60 minutes before a charter flight, 45 minutes before an international flight and 30 minutes before a domestic flight. It’s worth remembering that there will be times when security is particularly busy so you should always allow extra time.

With some airlines you can use the self-check-in kiosks rather than queuing up at the desks – then you just need to take your hold baggage to the bag drop before heading to security.

Baggage allowance

How much hand and hold luggage you’re allowed is up to your airline, so you should check with them. The DfT’s size limit for hand baggage is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, but some airlines may have tighter restrictions.

Liquids, gels and pastes are allowed in your hand luggage, but they must be in containers of 100ml or less (which isn’t very much), and they must be carried through security in a clear, resealable 20cm x 20cm plastic bag. You can pack liquids of any volume in your hold luggage. The exceptions are baby food, baby milk, sterilised water and essential medicines for the journey; you may need a letter from your doctor confirming that you need the medicine (again, check with your airline). Don’t forget that once you’ve gone through security, you can buy liquids in the departure lounge.

Book Exeter airport parking

Have you booked car parking for while you’re on holiday? If not, check out our Exeter airport parking page. We can offer great deals on both Long-Stay and Short-Stay parking at the airport. We also offer Meet and Greet parking with Flyparks – where your car is collected from you outside the terminal, parked for you, and brought back to the terminal when you return from holiday.

Dropping off passengers

The most convenient place to drop off passengers is Short-Stay car park 1, which is a 50-yard walk from the terminal – but parking does cost £1 for 30 minutes, or £2 for an hour. Alternatively, you can park free for 10 minutes in car park 4, which is a four-minute free bus ride from the terminal (the bus runs every 10 minutes). After 10 minutes, prices are the same as the Short Stay car park. (Prices correct on August 24, 2013.)
