Baggage Allowance

Check-in

You should check with your airline what time you need to check in, but the airport’s general recommendation is to arrive two hours before your flight. Check-in opens two hours before scheduled flights and three hours before charter flights. When you arrive, check the flight information screens in the main concourse to see where you need to check in.

Baggage allowance

Passengers flying from Teesside airport are allowed two items of hand luggage. The maximum size for each piece is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Laptops and handbags count as one item, irrespective of size so you’ll need to put them into your main hand luggage rather than carrying them separately. You should also check with your airline in case they operate more stringent restrictions.

Despite the relaxing of the one-item-of-hand-luggage rule on some airlines, the rule over liquids in hand luggage is still in place: liquids, pastes and gels are only allowed in your hand luggage if they’re in containers of 100ml or less. They must be taken out of your hand luggage and carried through security in a clear, resealable 20cm x 20cm plastic bag. The only exceptions are medicine you have been prescribed and need for the trip – we advise bringing your prescription or a letter from your doctor with you – and baby food and baby milk.

Laptops and other large electrical items, like portable DVD players and large hairdryers, also have to be taken out of your hand luggage and screened separately. Cameras and mobile phones don’t need to be taken out though.

Book Teesside airport parking and hotels

It might be one of the smaller airports, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get stuck in traffic on your way to Teesside airport, or have trouble finding a parking space if you’ve not booked. Plus, airport parking’s always more expensive when you pay on the day. So visit our Teesside airport parking page to get your space sorted before you go – and our Teesside airport hotels page for somewhere to stay the night before your flight. The warm and friendly St George Hotel is within walking distance of the terminal.

Dropping off passengers

There is a drop-off and pick-up car park to the right of the terminal, where you can park for 15 minutes for free.
