And speaking of settling in, the rooms at the hotel are generously sized with modern touches so you can enjoy the aesthetic of the manor but the comfort of up-to-date rooms.

The website stated that there was a decent restaurant and a bar at the hotel. After a gruelling day trying to get away from Stansted airport, we needed to settle down and chill for the evening. There was NO restaurant and the bar amounted to a small counter from which the receptionist would sell a few bottles of lager or a glass or bottle of wine. That was it! We, therefore, had to drive to the next village to get a meal at a pub. The room was comfortable enough - after we'd opened the windows to air the place a bit.

Getting to the airport
It's a 15-minute taxi ride to the terminal. Call the hotel before you arrive to book your taxi and pay when you check in.
Taxis cost around £25 each way, but you might save if you book early.
