7 games to fit in your carry-on
We've put together a list of what we think are some of the best games to play when you're on holiday.
And we've made sure that they're all small enough to pack in your luggage – or your pocket.
Nintendo Switch
The perfect companion for if you just can't face a week without your gaming hit. It can fit in your carry-on and you can charge it with USB-C so you don't even have to bring an extra cable. Perfect for the plane or that bit of the holiday after you've finished sunbathing but before you go to dinner and you don't quite know what to do with yourself.
For games that fit the holiday vibe why not opt for something like Coral Island, which tasks you with restoring an island paradise through a cosy mix of farming, mining and mingling with the townspeople and merfolk that call the island home.
Want to enjoy some co-op hilarity? You can't go wrong with Overcooked, which will test even the strongest of friendships.
When Sip Hits the Fan
We all know how important it is to stay hydrated when you're on holiday. Enter When Sip Hits the Fan from the people who brought you Exploding Kittens. This hydration game will keep heat stroke at bay by making sure you never have to go too long between sips.
Used your thumbs? Take a sip. Wearing blue underwear? Take two sips. Lucky for you the all-inclusive bar won't be too far away, and the spinner is the ideal size for fitting on the end of a sunlounger.
Geocaching
After a unique way to explore your destination? Give Geocaching a go. It's like a treasure hunt meets an escape room out in the wild, where the fun part is working out how to find the treasure, not necessarily what it is. How it works is you open the app (which is free), pick a nearby cache and navigate your way to it. Then the real hunt begins as you try and work out where and how it's hidden.
And it's available all over the world in 191 countries so chances are there'll be a cache hidden near you wherever you go on holiday.
Dobble
This is a quick and easy one to play pretty much anywhere, whether it's the departures lounge, the tray table of your plane seat, or the balcony of your hotel room.
It's pretty simple so even the youngest travellers in your group can play and enjoy it. It's a matching game where you have to match the symbols on the card in your hand with the symbol on the card in the middle – whoever gets the most matches wins. It also comes in loads of different versions, from Disney to Harry Potter and Star Wars.

Gloom
Gloom is hilarious, especially if you're after something a bit more moody and eccentric for your backlog. It's a card game with nifty, clear cards and the aim of it is to make your family as miserable as possible by using the scenarios written on the cards to tell increasingly unlikely and morbidly witty stories.
At the same time you can use your turn to make your opponents' families happier, as by the end of the game the player with the most depressed family wins. How fun!
Love Letter
A simple 18-card game that takes no more than 10 minutes to play and could easily be played on a plane table. Really easy to learn, lots of opportunities to hoodwink your opponent as you vie to have the highest numbered card left at the end of the game.
And just like Dobble there are tons of different themed versions too, including Marvel, Lord of the Rings and even Bridgerton.
Skull
This game is played using round cards that look like beautifully designed coasters. It's poker distilled down to just the bluffing, similar to games like Liar's Dice. Perfect for warm evenings outdoors and always a guarantee of riotous fun.
