The historic capital of Tunis is steeped in history, which you can enjoy at Carthage (here you'll find the Roman ruins) or the Bardo Museum. Sousse is also packed with history, and it has nearly 15,000 tombs waiting to be explored. For a Saharan adventure, the Grand Erg Oriental covers 40,000 square kilometres of desert and has oodles of sand dunes waiting to be explored by 4x4, or, by camel!
