In 2016 the UK signed the Paris Agreement. Its goal is to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees celsius, preferably to 1.5, compared to pre-industrial levels. Every person, business and government needs to take action to achieve this.

By reducing our carbon emissions and making sustainable choices we can help ensure that we can continue to visit the places around the world that we love.

Learn more about how we are making our business operations more sustainable, the Glasgow Declaration and COP26 and our commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions.

The Glasgow Declaration and COP26

The planet needs our help, which is why we're moving towards a greener future of sustainable travel and why we signed the Glasgow Declaration in November 2021.

We believe holidays are important not only for the wellbeing of people that travel, but to the local economies and communities of the destinations visited. It's crucial that we protect the environment so people can continue to explore beautiful destinations across the world.

Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is 'Partnerships for the Goals', which recognises that we must work in partnership with businesses and competitors to solve sustainability issues. The Glasgow Declaration, launched at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference, is a travel industry initiative with a commitment to cut tourism emissions in half over the next decade and reach net-zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050.

Changes we've made on campus

There's lots we can do straight away around the office to make a difference. Here are some of the things we've done so far:

  • Installed solar panels at our Kent campus - read the case study on Blue Renewables site.
  • Fitted LED bulbs across campus that adjust to outside light
  • Electric car charging points
  • Introduced an electric car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Cycle to work salary sacrifice scheme
  • Custom-built recycling stations to encourage better habits
  • Motion-sensor lights in several of our meeting rooms
  • We have our very own veggie patch where our team grow produce for on-site events!
  • Our on-site coffee van (@kendrewcoffee) uses biodegradable and compostable packaging for all their delicious coffees and lunches
  • We no longer use single-use plastic cups/straws, tableware or cutlery for events
  • On-site pond to encourage local wildlife
  • There are bikes on campus to promote greener travel
  • Regular team litter picks
  • We provide dairy-alternative milk in our staff kitchens
  • Sign in enabled printer to avoid unnecessary printing

Climate action plan

When looking at changes we need to make to achieve our sustainability goals, we have to look at emissions that are owned or controlled by us (Scopes 1 & 2) as well as indirect emissions from our suppliers and the impact of our products and services (Scope 3). We're proud to be able to share our 2023 Climate Action Plan that includes actions we're taking across all three scopes of emissions/impact.

We're currently working updating our climate action plan, using data and information from our latest Carbon Footprint Report, and we'll be sharing both by the end of this year - so keep your eyes peeled!

Carbon Footprint Report

We have now received our first-ever Group-wide carbon footprint report from Green Element, covering our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for our baseline year of 2022/23. With this comprehensive data in hand, we're creating a more robust climate action plan to keep us on track towards our key milestones, ultimately helping us achieve our goal of reaching net zero by 2050.
