Treats on Lufthansa flights

German carrier Lufthansa has announced that two major sporting events this summer will be the inspiration behind changes to its onboard menu.

Since the beginning of the year, Lufthansa has been offering a series of in-flight culinary surprises to its passengers and now the Wimbledon tennis tournament and the America's Cup yachting race have inspired two summer treats.

On June 25th, all business class passengers on Lufthansa flights between Germany and London will be served a traditional bowl of fresh strawberries and cream. To accompany the fruit, passengers will be able to sip a complementary glass of champagne.

A statement from the airline read: "Strawberries and cream are just as much part of the age-old tradition as the whites worn by the players and the grass courts."

Throughout the summer, the airline will also be celebrating the America's Cup by offering all passengers on selected European routes a specially crafted desert - a mix of rich shortcrust pastry, confectioner's custard and fresh fruit carefully shaped into a yacht and garnished with a chocolate sail.

Other surprises in store for Lufthansa passengers include a free selection of international cocktails to celebrate the 'blue hour' on Friday afternoons.

Lufthansa flies to several UK destinations, including Birmingham, London City Airport, Heathrow and Manchester.
