5 Tower of London Facts
Due to an old superstition, there are always six ravens at the Tower of London whose wings are clipped so they can't fly too far from home.
The Tower of London was originally built as a royal palace and defence.
During the 1200s it was home to a zoo including exotic animals such as polar bears and kangaroos. The zoo was shut down in 1835 and all the animals were moved to the London Zoo at Regent's Park.
It's a haunted house! There have been reports of several ghost sightings at the tower including Henry VI, Catherine Howard and a grizzly bear.
In 2012 the key to the internal lock was stolen! Although it has never been recovered, the lock was changed immediately.
