Holidays launched for single skiers

[December 8th 2008]

Ski Freshtracks is offering skiing holidays for single travellers with no single supplement.

For the 2008/09 skiing season Ski Freshtracks has nine holidays where everyone gets their own room at no extra cost. On all the adventure skiing operator’s other skiing holidays there are a small number of rooms which can be booked for single occupancy.

Holidays with no single supplement include an instructional week in Courmayeur, Italy, a week in the chic Swiss resort of St Moritz and a “testosterone-free girls’ weekend” in Grindelwald, Switzerland.

“All our holidays are ideal for those who don’t necessarily have friends or family who ski at the same level as them, or maybe don’t even ski at all. Anyone can come on our trips and ski at the level that suits them, meaning their skiing nearly always improves and at the same time they make new friends,” explains Ski Freshtracks general manager, Caroline Boileau.

With early snow in the Alps providing excellent skiing conditions so soon into the new season, Ski Freshtracks says it still has availability on Christmas skiing holidays in La Plagne and off-piste New Year skiing holidays in Flaine.

Ski Freshtracks is the tour operator arm of the Ski Club of Great Britain, which has more than 34,000 members. In a recent poll on its website, the Ski Club of Great Britain found that 34% of respondents said their holiday insurance only covered them for the basics or they had no holiday insurance at all.

“People who are unlucky enough to have an accident on the slopes can often get caught out by either forgetting to take out insurance, thinking they can risk going away without it or not taking out adequate cover. The key is to read the small print and make sure your policy covers you for all the activities you will be taking part in,” comments Ski Club of Great Britain information manager, Alyn Morgan.

His advice is not just to take the cheapest travel insurance but to make sure the policy covers you for all activities you plan to take part in. People who have an accident on a skiing holiday when they are not insured can end up with huge bills. In North America an air ambulance costs about £30,000 and repatriation to the UK with upgraded seats for leg injuries costs up to £5,000.
