Managing Director Short Breaks
I've been at Holiday Extras for over a decade, originally starting in 2005 as an administrator in our then Estates team after finishing university. But I always knew I wanted to travel the world so once I'd saved up enough money I went off for a year and spent many months in Koh Tao scuba diving.
Finally running out of money I came back to the UK and joined Holiday Extras again in August 2006 with a more renewed sense of what I wanted and started in the Commercial team. Since then the company has exploded and I've tried to play my part in the few acquisitions that we've made over the years. Me and the teams spend our time here trying to find the best products for our customers and building partnerships with our suppliers. We're also always on the hunt for new technologies to reduce the hassle for our customers with some exciting prospects in their early stages of life right now. At home I'm a gadget geek so I love considering how we stitch more technology into the travel experience so our customers can simply enjoy more holiday.
Life before Holiday Extras
Before joining Holiday Extras, I studied for four years at Nottingham Trent University for a BSc Sports Science and Management degree and graduated with a first-class honours. This was definitely my first taste of putting in hard work and that paying off.
Life outside of work
I would have said previously; exercise, exercise, exercise, however with a young son I've swapped one form of exercise for another. I definitely still love getting out, skiing, hiking, running (got a few marathons under my belt), but now sport is more inclusive with my little one.
Jo, my amazing wife not only works but also keeps our house free of chaos and we do our best to raise our little boy amongst various house development plans.
Jo and I have been lucky enough to have some great trips abroad, we love a sunny holiday by a pool, conversely the less said about the time I taught her to ski the better :-/
What's your perfect holiday?
Has to be Koh Tao island in the gulf of Thailand: scuba diving and just the simple way of life. I overcame my fear of the sea when I discovered the joys of scuba diving. And went on to train to become a dive master, teaching diving on the island of Koh Tao. It took me three months and 120 dives but it was well worth the wait! Holidays have taken on a whole new angle with the arrival of our son and with another on the way we'll soon be tackling 2. However, anything where the sun is shining and a good pool would do us.
Seeing the business grow to become strong and successful. Ultimately the destiny of the business is in our hands; we can make decisions quickly and not get wrapped up in tape. It's such a vibrant place to work because of this, always buzzing with new projects and new ideas.
