Tips on Travelling Alone in Palma

If you're looking for a holiday destination that rewards the solo traveller, Palma is certainly a very good choice. And since you are contemplating your next vacation, please check out ourairport transfers.

Safety

Palma is a very safe place to visit. For one thing, it's a bustling, friendly city that makes it difficult to be truly alone. However, be sure to use sound judgement when you're out and about. It's always best to avoid situations that might put you in potential danger, such as dark, quiet parts of the city.

Just as importantly, be mindful of the kind of petty criminality that tends to prey on hapless tourists. People often let their guard down when on holiday, which means that wallets, purses, mobile phones and the like are often flashed without much thought. Before booking your accommodation, make sure you check that it has a locker or safe. This will allow you to securely store surplus cash – or anything else of value – that you don't need on your person whenever you go out.

Language

Even if you don't speak a lick of Spanish, you should have no problem communicating with people during your stay. Majorca is used to welcoming English-language visitors and its economy is very much geared towards tourism. That said, it's definitely a good idea to learn at least some key phrases – you'll be surprised how happy it'll make the locals if you make the effort.

Navigation

The majority of Palma is accessible on foot but if you rent a bicycle, you'll find that the city and its environs will open up to you even more.

Palma boasts a good public transport system, with regular buses that serve almost every part, as well as villages and towns that are further afield. Fares are very affordable but if you intend to use the buses frequently, consider buying a season ticket – it'll save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

If you decide to hire a car, don't forget to drive on the right side of the road!

Believe in yourself

If this is going to be your first trip abroad alone, you might be feeling some trepidation, which is totally understandable. So long as you use basic common sense, there's no reason why you shouldn't have a fabulous time.
