Lufthansa Launches Green Scheme

German airline Lufthansa has unveiled a new scheme allowing customers to "play an active role" in tackling climate change.

Customers can make donations on the airline's website, via partner organisation myclimate, which go towards climate protection projects.

Lufthansa claims that the projects comply with stringent quality standards and will help to achieve a direct reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Wolfgang Mayrhuber, chairman of the company's executive board, said: "Lufthansa stands for corporate policies that are geared to environmental protection and sustainability.

"By providing a platform that enables our customers to play a part in climate protection, we are also complying with the wishes of many Lufthansa passengers who are eager to make an effective contribution to the common good."

Since 2006 the airline has offered its 'miles to help' scheme, which enables passengers to donate award miles to environmental organisations and aid agencies.
