Parking when you reach the airport

Once you reach London City airport you’ll be able to quickly pick up your friend or relative, or to wait for longer in one of the car parks. It’s important to know which option is more suitable for you and the passenger who is waiting, as the wrong option will waste time and money.

Stop in one of the areas listed below:

  • Terminal building – You can pick up a passenger from the front of the terminal building, but there are strict rules. You cannot leave the car unattended, and you are not allowed to wait in the area. This means that you’ll have to get the timings perfect, so that your passenger is waiting for you.
  • Main Stay Parking – If you don’t mind spending money, you can wait for longer in the Maon Stay parking area just two minutes away from the terminal. This will cost £9.50 for 20 minutes*.

Public transport from London City airport

There’s no need to worry if you aren’t being collected from the airport – it’s easy to get around with public transport in London. If you’re going to be travelling locally it can be worthwhile to pick up an Oyster card, which can be used for all public transport in London.

Get where you need with one of the following options:

  • Docklands Light Railway (DLR). This overground system connects east London to the London Underground network. The train departs the airport (located in zone 3) every eight to 15 minutes, and stops at a variety of underground stations.
  • Bus. You can get to central London by bus too. Jump on the 473 or 474 bus to reach locations like Canning Town.
  • Train. Take the DLR to Canning Town. From there you can use the Jubilee Line underground service to reach the nearest National Rail stations: London Bridge, Waterloo and Stratford International.
  • Taxi. The classic Licensed London Black taxis are available from right outside the terminal building.
