Best Places to Stay in Rome

Rome is one of the most beautiful and popular holiday destinations, with it being the third most visited city in Europe. Whether you take a trip there to observe its impressive historical monuments or inspirational art, it's safe to say the Italian capital oozes charisma and romance. When embarking on any holiday an important decision is deciding where to stay.

So here at Holiday Extras we've done the research for you and provided some tips. We also provide airport transfers to help you get to your destination quickly and hassle free.

The best area for nightlife

One of the liveliest districts in Rome is Trastevere, with vibrant lanes packed with bars and cafes. Every night tourists and locals alike flock to the area to enjoy the buzz and energetic atmosphere. Head back over the river where the historic centre also sees plenty of action late into the night, with fancy designer bars and more laid-back neighbouring cafes. You could try San Lorenzo or Pigneto for a more alternative scene.

The best area for romance

Aventine Hill is known to be one of the most romantic areas, and perfect for couples and honeymooners. It has a hilltop location where you can enjoy breath-taking views of the city. It is however a slight diversion from the main tourist path, and so there aren't too many hotels. But, if you are keen to stay somewhere exclusive that you can remember forever – this is your place.

The best area for restaurants

Foodies have too much to choose from when they are in Rome. There is everything from lively pizzerias, to authentic trattorias to Michelin-starred restaurants. However, if you are in search of a traditional dining experience you must go to Testaccio. It might not be Rome's most attractive neighbourhood but it boasts a rich history, and you can dine in old, family-run trattorias.

The best area for safety

On the whole Rome is safe city, however areas around Termini station and Via Giolitti are deemed by some to be the more dangerous districts. Try Prati for a safe, quiet and well-connected area which is easily accessible by the metro and is in a good location for the Vatican. There are also plenty of good hotels and restaurants you can try.

Don't forget to book our Rome airport transfers to avoid lengthy queues and inflated local rates at the airport.
