Bountiful beach activities

The first thing on the minds of many Alicante visitors is relaxing by the warm blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea – and this port city offers no shortage of variety. Levante and Poniente boast Blue Flag beaches that ideal for families. Each feature play areas, showers and even libraries.

Sporty types will feel at home in Alicante. Altea is perfect for sailing, with its extensive marina offering private yacht charters. There are all manner of water sports to enjoy, too. Windsurfing, for example, is available at Aloha Sport Club, Club Surf el Moreno and Torrevieja Surf.

There's also pleasure to be found beneath the waves – the Cape of San Antonio has its own marine reserve and Tabarca features one that is protected. Each is ideal for inquisitive scuba divers.

Celebrate good times

One of Alicante's oldest, most fascinating quarters is El Barrio with its winding streets and cheerful houses. It's also home to an array of nightclubs, bars and pubs that are frequented by travellers of all ages. Alicante has a buzzing atmosphere throughout the year but things really shift up a gear during the summer when clubs such as KU and KM Playa often host big name DJs.

The joys of Jávea

Why not take advantage of Alicante's cooler months with an exploration of its northern areas? The historic port of Jávea is only an hour's drive away. Here, you'll find more beaches, such as Playa del Arenal with its notable promenade. Nearby Cape San Antonio provides spectacular coastal views and the opportunity for wonderful hillside treks. From here, you can explore Montgó Natural Park, which is rich with Mediterranean flora and fauna.
