Is Rome safe?

As major European cities go, Rome is very safe. However, incidents of pickpocketing and bag snatching are higher than average. Therefore, be sure to always keep tabs on any valuables. And be wary of distraction techniques that are designed to catch unwary visitors off guard.

Accommodation

Since you're travelling to Rome alone, it makes sense to stay as centrally as you can. That way you're much less likely to find yourself isolated and in a part of the city that you're unfamiliar with. Irrespective of one's budget, Rome offers all types of accommodation for every kind of traveller. And it's easier than you might think to pick up a reasonably priced place to stay that is situated in the heart of the city.

Getting around

It's quite possible to take in almost the whole city without relying on any form of transport. Many of Rome's most significant landmarks are within easy walking distance of the city centre, not least the famous Colosseum.

If you feel up to the challenge of driving around Rome, renting a car will pose very few problems. If you ever need to take a cab, just present yourself at the nearest taxi rank (there are many all over the city). If you try to hail a cab, there's every chance you'll be ignored.

In terms of public transport, probably the best way to get about is by bus. Services run on a 24-hour basis and cover the entirety of the city. You might also wish to use Metropolitana di Roma, an underground system consisting of two lines. A BIT ticket is useful for single bus and metro journeys, while a BIG ticket will allow you to travel for up to 24 hours. Purchasing a BTI ticket will provide you with unlimited bus and metro travel for up to 72 hours.

Wherever you choose to travel in the world, Holiday Extras' airport transfers will provide you with the ideal start to your vacation.
