Travel Bulletin recognises London Gatwick Airport
London Gatwick Airport has been named the best major UK airport at the annual Travel Bulletin Star Awards, beating competition from rival airports Heathrow and Manchester.
Broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kohli presented the award in recognition of the airport's extensive investment in redevelopment to Gatwick's commercial director Mike Luddy: "This is the sixth time we have won this award, voted for by travel agents nationwide. We are working hard to put the passenger at the heart of everything we do and make Gatwick the first choice for airlines and passengers."
Andy Flower, London Gatwick's managing director, said: "[Monday] was a great day for Gatwick. As well as winning this prestigious award, we also signed a contract for £31.3 million worth of redevelopment work at South Terminal. This will improve the experience for passengers and pave the way for major changes to the airfield layout that will help accommodate our growth at Gatwick in the future. Despite the uncertainty of the sale, this award proves Gatwick is performing well as a business and being recognised for its achievements."
The Travel Bulletin Star Travel Awards are voted for by readers of the UK's leading weekly trade magazine. More than 30 awards were presented, including the Star Holiday Add-ons Operator to Holiday Extras.
