Christmas markets Poland

British travellers searching for a Christmas shopping experience with a difference may want to head to Poland and its traditional Christmas markets this year.

Krakow, Warsaw and Gdansk all hold festive markets where shoppers can experience Christmas Polish-style, from speciality food and Polish carols, to steaming mulled wine and even a sprinkling of snow.

Acting Director of the Polish National Tourist Office, Bogan Becla, said: “Poland is a special country at any time of the year, but it really stands out at Christmas – our traditional Christmas markets bring an extra slice of festive magic to our wonderful cities.

“But Christmas in Poland isn’t all about shopping. A festive visit is always a great chance to unwind in one of Europe’s winter wonderlands, and it’s even easier to make the trip now that Aer Lingus is flying direct to Warsaw from London every day of the week.”

Poland's most famous Christmas market is held every year on Krakow's Rynek. This year's event runs from December 7 until Christmas Day. Goods on sale include handicrafts from across the Małopolska region, festive food like bigos, pierogi and delicious oscypek cheese, washed down with warming mulled wine.

Jarmark takes place in front of Warsaw's Royal Palace between November 27 and December 23, featuring traditional regional produce and up to date fashion as well as the obligatory festive nibbles and hot wine.

Gdansk's Christmas fair is known as Jarmark Gwiazdkowy and takes place between December 5 and 23.

Christmas shoppers from the UK can reach Poland's cities with Aer Lingus, Wizz Air and easyJet.
