Virgin celebrates

[February 9th 2009]

Virgin Atlantic is this month celebrating 15 years of offering flights to Hong Kong.

Since it first launched flights between London and Hong Kong in February 1994, Virgin Atlantic has carried more than 2.1 million passengers on the route.

In December last year, a second daily service was launched from Heathrow to Hong Kong, which Virgin says gives passengers more choice and flexibility when travelling to the Far East and on to Sydney.

“To be celebrating 15 years of flying to Hong Kong is a real achievement for Virgin Atlantic and we are proud to have been offering passengers our excellent service on this route since 1994. We love flying to Hong Kong which was proved last year when, owing to demand, we doubled capacity on the route,” says Virgin Atlantic chief executive, Steve Ridgway.

Virgin now offers passengers a choice of an afternoon or evening flight from Heathrow to Hong Kong. One flight leaves Heathrow at 16.00 and arrives in Hong Kong at 12.30 the following day. The other flight departs from Heathrow at 21.30 and lands in Hong Kong at 17.40 the next day.

Return flights leave Hong Kong at 14.15 and 23.35, arriving at Heathrow at 19.20 and 04.50 respectively.

As part of its current ‘Red Hot’ flight sale, Virgin Atlantic is offering return economy fares to Hong Kong from £379. Return fares in premium economy are priced from £858, while Upper Class fares start from £2,001.

Economy and Premium Economy fares are available for sale until February 17th and Upper Class fares are available for sale until February 24th in the ‘Red Hot’ flight sale.

“Fifteen years on Hong Kong still remains a very popular business and holiday destination, with an increasing number of passengers taking city breaks to the region,” comments Ridgway.

Virgin Atlantic was founded in 1984 by entrepreneur Richard Branson and now operates flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports. The long haul airline has a fleet of 38 aircraft and flies to 30 destinations worldwide from Las Vegas to Shanghai.
