Airbus A380's first flight announced

Singapore Airlines will be the first airline to use the highly-anticipated Airbus A380 superjumbo.

The first commercial flight of the Airbus A380 will be Singapore Airlines' flight from Singapore to Sydney on October 25th.

Earlier in October, the first A380 will be delivered to the airline a ceremony in Toulouse. The new plane will then fly to Singapore Changi Airport.

Chew Choon Seng, chief executive of Singapore Airlines, commented: "Everyone at Singapore Airlines is keenly anticipating the delivery of this new plane, and our people are working hard on final preparation for its entry into service.

"The first flight promises to be one of the most exciting occasions in aviation history."

Indeed, seats for the inaugural flight will be auctioned on the eBay website.

The new craft will feature 471 seats in three classes. These will be economy, business a new 'beyond First' suite.

Singapore Airlines has ordered 19 of the new airplanes and other airlines are also waiting to put the craft into service.

For example, Virgin Atlantic is to buy six and Emirates has ordered 55 in the future.
