New York flights from Cardiff?

Zoom Airlines is considering launching a new service between Cardiff and New York, reports suggest.

The long-haul low-cost carrier already flies from Cardiff Airport to Toronto and Vancouver and is apparently thinking of adding a route to New York in the near future.

Recently, the carrier began flights between Gatwick and New York's JFK Airport. At the launch of the new service, the airline's chairman Hugh Boyle confirmed that Zoom Airlines was already thinking about expanding its operations.

A Cardiff Airport spokesperson added: "We are talking with Zoom, but the Welsh public can help us prove to Zoom there will be a market from the south Wales area.

"No detailed information is available about the numbers who fly to New York from south Wales and, therefore, we would appeal to travellers, particularly business people, to let us know through our website www.cwlfly.com."

"That information could then be used to secure a regular service to New York, which is what we all want."

At the moment, the nearest comparable service is a Continental route that operates between Bristol and New York.
