London audio tours launched

For tourists visiting London for the first time, the capital can be something of a daunting place.

But a new product means that holidaymakers could be guided around the city by a host of celebrities and people famed for their London knowledge.

Soundmap has launched a series of audio walking tours of the capital which holidaymakers can download before they depart.

Once downloaded, the holidaymaker simply adds it to their Mp3 player and sets off for the start point of their particular tour. There, they just hit play and allow the expert guides to navigate them through the city.

Renowned Londoners like Robert Elms, Irma Kurtz, Max Decharne and Tarquin Hall read the audio tours, which are complete with sound clips and music to bring the city to life for the tourists.

Currently, visitors can download one hour audio maps of Soho, the King's Road and Camden Town. In the near future, new maps covering Brixton and Brick Lane will be made available.

Figures from Visit London suggest that 5.4 million tourists alone visited the east end of London in 2006.
