Virgin's still got it
Virgin Atlantic has been named as a CoolBrand for 2009/10 by the Superbrands organisation.
In a list dominated by big names in technology, Virgin was placed 14th, the only travel company to reach the top 20.
Steve Ridgway, chief executive of Virgin Atlantic, said: We are delighted to be the only travel company featuring in the top 20 CoolBrands. It is testament to Virgin Atlantics continuing widespread and international appeal, and demonstrates that we are still red hot 25 years on.
The CoolBrands list is the result of a survey carried out by The Centre for Brand Analysis which identifies the 500 coolest brands in the UK. It reflects the opinions of influential opinion formers and the British public, and looks at key factors including style, innovation, originality and desirability.
Stephen Cheliotis, Chairman of the CoolBrands council and Chief Executive of The Centre for Brand Analysis, said: Virgin Atlantics inclusion on the CoolBrands List 2009/10 shows that it is the leading figure in its sector. Competition to be seen as one of the coolest brands in the UK is as fierce as ever and clearly Virgin Atlantic is delivering in the eyes of experts and the public.
Apple proved just how cool it is with the iPhone, iPod and Apple brand itself all making the top 10. BlackBerry, Nintendo, YouTube, BBC iPlayer, and Google were all there yet classic names including Aston Martin, Dom Perignon, Mini and Vivienne Westwood demonstrated that you don't have to be young to be cool.
