Southampton port enjoys record day

May 20, 2009

Southampton docks has announced details of a record day in terms of passenger figures, with in excess of 22,000 cruise-goers passing through on May 11, 2009 alone.

The day marked the first day of operation for the new £19 million Ocean Terminal and represented the start of what is anticipated to be its busiest cruise season yet.

The new Ocean Terminal welcomed the P&O vessel Oceana as the first ship to use the state-of-the-art facilities at the Eastern Docks, while the world's largest cruise liner, the 158,000-ton Independence of the Seas, docked at the City Cruise Terminal, next door to Mayflower Park in the Western Docks.

Southampton remains one of the country's leading port towns, with an extensive array of unforgettable cruises departing and ending at the port.
