Jet2.com announces new flights from Newcastle
Jet2.com has announced five new flight routes for summer 2010 from Newcastle Airport, a move expected to create 100,000 extras seats and 450 new jobs.
The low-fare airline will begin operating routes from May 2010 to Dalaman, Crete, Gran Canaria, Paphos and Sharm el Sheikh, with prices starting from as little as £59.99 one way, including taxes.
Philip Meeson, chief executive at Jet2.com, said: "We see the north east as having real growth potential for our leisure business. The people here have really embraced Jet2.com and love flying with us. The new routes are in response to that demand and the new jobs will also hopefully show our renewed commitment to this great region. We will be working closely with the airport to deliver this enhanced service.
"We believe we are developing a real understanding of what the people of the north east want from their holidays - fantastic leisure destinations, low fares and a friendly service. This is proving to be a winning formula and with the five new routes we have just announced, we will continue to give our passengers the destinations they want."
In addition to the new routes, the airline will continue to offer flights to the popular resorts of Corfu, Cork, Pisa, Rhodes and Split, as well as increasing the number of services to Tenerife and Lanzarote.
David Laws, chief executive of Newcastle International, said: "Newcastle International's partnership with Jet2.com has been given another significant boost today.
"With the launch of these new routes, Jet2.com will be providing our customers with additional choice and flexibility for holidays to some of our most popular sunshine destinations - and at low-cost too. The continued expansion of Jet2.com services from Newcastle International is great news for passengers in the region and demonstrates the confidence and commitment the airline has to Newcastle International and the north east."
