Gatwick Express under threat
January 2007
The Gatwick Express, a non-stop express service that links the airport to London Victoria is set to be axed in a plan to reduce congestion between London and Brighton. A move that could make pre-booking your airport parking an essential.
The end of the service was announced last February as the Strategic Rail Authority proposed that the service would stop at East Croydon in an effort to reduce over crowding by opening it up to commuter usage. With more than 5 million using the service each year, there has been much protest against the plans from airlines and the general public along with backing from Sir Richard Branson.
Branson stated the services potential importance for the 2012 Olympic games, stating that "it needs to remain as a dedicated, non-stop and frequent service."
While the future of the Gatwick Express service remaining in doubt even a reduced service would see a rise in passengers driving to the airport. When coupled with the news that last year saw record passengers flying from Gatwick, parking at Gatwick Airport is at a premium. At Holiday Extras we offer a fantastic selection of on-airport and off-airport parking to meet all your Gatwick Airport parking needs.
