East Midlands Airport News

March 2007

East Midlands Airport has announced that, from Monday March 5th it will become 'smoke-free.' From next week the terminal building will no longer have a smoking facility either before or after passport control.

Implementing the change ahead of the Government legislation banning smoking in public places, which comes into effect on Sunday 1st July, the airport is leading the way in providing a safe and healthy environment. There will be appropriate signage around the building to ensure that passengers understand the changes. East Midlands Airport is teaming up with the North West Leicestershire District Council with the 'Why Wait?' campaign being launched on March 14th - National No Smoking Day.

East Midlands Airport Manager, John Doherty said that with all enclosed public places soon to be smoke-free, "the Airport will be leading by example by going smoke-fee nearly four months early."
