Brits rediscover the Channel Islands

More and more British travellers are planning a trip to the Channel Islands, according to recent reports.
With a weak pound and financial instability, increasingly we're looking closer to home for our well-earned breaks.
The five islands making up the Channel Islands - Jersey, Guernsey, Herm, Sark, Alderney - offer stunning beaches, warm waters, idyllic countryside, French and British heritage and fresh seasonal produce, all within a 50 minute flight or three hour ferry ride.
And according to Expedia.co.uk's Travel Hotspots Barometer, online searches in February 2009 had increased by 101 per cent compared to the same time last year.
“From the lure of the Channel Islands’ 150 miles of sun-kissed coast line to the fantastic clotted Jersey cream teas, it’s no surprise that people are looking at this beautiful destination for closer-to-home holidays this spring,” said Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing, Expedia.co.uk.
Chris Elliott, VisitGuernsey’s director of marketing and tourism, said: “We too have seen increased interest in the islands, reflecting the statistics highlighted in Expedia’s ‘Travel Hotspots Barometer’.
"We know that return and new guests are coming to Guernsey and the surrounding islands because it’s a destination that feels far away, even though it’s so close to the UK. With less airport hassle than other destinations, fabulous beaches and local food, as well as the British Pound, the islands offer the perfect holiday getaway.”
UK travellers can reach the Channel Islands from various departure points with Flybe, easyJet and Aurigny airlines or Condor Ferries.
