New York 'will be popular over winter'
The current strength of the pound against the dollar will inspire more people to head to New York for a pre-Christmas shopping trip, an industry expert has predicted.
Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), explained that cheap flights and the strong pound were likely to combine to make New York and extremely popular destination this winter.
Ms Turke said: "I think we might well see a great number of people going over [to New York] in November.
"There are sales in the states after Thanksgiving, which tends to be the end of November, so the end of November and beginning of December will be extremely popular this year."
In addition, Ms Turke explained that the Canary Islands, Egypt and Cyprus were also popular winter holiday destinations.
She concluded: "The Caribbean is very big over the winter. Increasingly you are finding African nations [are popular] - Kenya, Gambia, Tanzania."
Currently, £1 buys around $2.05.
