Brits 'splash out before holiday'
In a bid to resemble celebrities, British women are collectively spending over £7 billion on pre-holiday beauty treatments and clothes, new research suggests.
According to Travelodge, women typically spend £293.52 on clothes, shoes, accessories and beauty treatments before heading off on holiday.
Travelodge broke down what women spend money on before a holiday and found that holiday clothes (£75), manicures and pedicures (£40) and waxing sessions (£30) are the most costly items.
However, the research found that the pre-holiday beautification was not just confined to women - with men typically splashing out £101.25 before jetting off.
"These findings highlight just how much we are influenced by the celebrity culture. It seems that our holiday look is just as important as the holiday itself," commented Guy Parsons, Travelodge's chief operating officer.
"As a nation it seems that we will leave no stone unturned when preparing for a week in the sun but some of us are forgetting the basics.
"Taking a holiday without travel insurance is a gamble that nobody should be prepared to take."
Recently, Ryanair suggested that people were more likely to book spur-of-the-moment holidays when it rained back home.
