More US flights from London

One of the world's largest airlines will start offering UK travellers a daily service between Stansted Airport and New York.

Starting in October, American Airlines will offer the daily service between the UK and New York's John F Kennedy Airport.

Furthermore, the recently agreed Open Skies agreement between the US and the EU means that American Airlines will be able to start another other routes to the US in March 2008.

The airline plans to launch services from London Heathrow Airport to Dallas Fort Worth and to Raleigh Durham Airport in North Carolina.

"These are significant schedule developments and demonstrate a continuing commitment which is driven by the London market's importance to our customers," explained Gerard Arpey, chairman of the airline.

"This will be the first time London passengers using our DFW or Raleigh/Durham gateways will be able to fly directly to Heathrow.

"In addition, our new service to London Stansted will provide our travellers with an alternative London airport and convenient service into a growing business district."

Currently the airline flies from Heathrow to Boston, Chicago, Miami, New York and Los Angeles.
