Jamaica 'most popular Caribbean island'

A survey by a leading travel website has revealed which are the most popular Caribbean destinations for UK holidaymakers.

According to cheapflights.co.uk, Jamaica is the most desired Caribbean destination for UK tourists - with 35.66 per cent of the visitor enquires.

The website based its information on the number of page impressions various Caribbean islands received.

Other popular islands included Barbados, Cuba, Antigua and St Lucia.

A statement from the website explained why Jamaica remained such a popular destination for Brits.

"It is fortunate enough to have two airports although the coral reefs and banana palms are sure to have lured in those hopeful of cheap flights to these two stunning destinations."

Recently, Virgin Atlantic announced that it would fly from London to Jamaica.

The new service will start October 30th and will operate between Gatwick and Kingston twice a week.

Virgin already offers a service between the UK and Montego Bay on the island.
