Family ski holidays remain popular

The demand for family ski holidays is steadily increasing as more people want active holidays with their children, a leading tour operator has claimed.

A spokesperson from First Choice explained that the popularity of skiing holidays was just increasing by between one and three per cent every year, but that more and more families were choosing this sort of holiday.

"We are seeing a growth in demand for family holiday," he added. "Lapland is also becoming more popular as it offers a variety of activities for a family to take part in and spend time with each other enjoying outdoor activities."

In general, however, the spokesperson said that traditional ski hotspots of France and Austria remain the most popular places for people already booking ski holidays for this winter.

"France is still very popular with guests who are very keen skiers and boarders [and] Austria has great skiing combined with traditional hotels," he explained.

"Kranjska Gora in Slovenia offers great value for families and beginner-intermediates but guests should also look out for money saving offers on ski packs and child offers."

The recent proliferation of low-cost airlines has made it easier for people to get to ski resorts and could have contributed to the decline in popularity of package deals that was recently reported by Air Travel Organisers' Licensing.
