New base for Wizz Air

Wizz Air has opened a new base at Poznan in western Poland and revealed that it will offer two new routes to the UK.

The low-cost carrier said that operations from its seventh base would begin in January 2008, but that tickets for the new services were already for sale on the airline's website.

From January 31st, the airline will fly between Doncaster Sheffield Airport and Poznan and from Glasgow Prestwick and the new Polish base.

In addition, the frequency of its service to London Luton will increase.

Jozsef Varadi, the chief executive officer of Wizz Air, said: "Wizz Air continues to pursue its expansion strategy in Poland with the establishment of the Poznan base early next year following the developments in Katowice, Warsaw and Gdansk.

"The move is expected to create hundreds of local jobs and significant revenue uplift for the tourism industry in the region."

Wizz Air also offers flights from London's Stansted Airport and Liverpool John Lennon to various eastern European destinations.
