Virgin launches new flight to Washington

[14th April 2008]

Virgin Atlantic is launching a second daily flight to the US capital, Washington DC, following the success of the seasonal service last summer.

The new flights to Washington Dulles International airport will operate from 20 April to 25 October this year departing Heathrow airport at 17.30 and arriving in Washington at 20.55. The return flight leaves Washington at 23.10 and lands at Heathrow at 11.35 the next day.

Virgin says the new seasonal flight is aimed at both business travellers and people taking a holiday to the USA who want to make the most of the favourable dollar exchange rate.

“Virgin Atlantic is pleased to announce this additional service offering our passengers more choice and flexibility to Washington this summer. DC is much more than the home of the US government, it is a very colourful city, offering great hotels, restaurants and shopping for those travelling on business or leisure,” says Virgin Atlantic chief executive, Steve Ridgway.

The new flight to Washington will be operated by an Airbus A340 fitted with Virgin’s Upper Class Suite, which the airline claims has the longest bed in business class. Upper Class passengers will also be able to use the new Upper Class Wing at Heathrow Terminal 3 which enables passengers to reach the airport lounge within minutes of arriving at the airport thanks to a private security corridor.

“This new service gives Virgin Atlantic passengers the best possible choice in flight times. They can choose the existing morning departure from Heathrow to Washington, or wait until the late afternoon to leave London. On the return, the late evening departure from Washington will suit the those who wish to have dinner in the Capital before heading back on an overnight flight to London,” says Ridgway.
