Emirates toasts record half-year

Emirates has announced a record six-month period ending September 30th, with profits doubling.

Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced record performance for the six months ending September 30th, with net profit rising by 99 per cent.

The carrier made a total 2.36 billion dirhams (£305.6 million) in profit, compared to 1.18 billion dirhams in the same period of last year.

In the six months from April to September Emirates carried 10.3 million passengers and announced services to five new destinations - Venice, Newcastle, Sao Paulo, Toronto and Ahmedabad.

These developments brought the airline's global network to 97 cities on six continents.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of the operator, said: "Emirates has delivered another excellent performance which reflects healthy demand for our products and services.

"We have expanded our route network with new large capacity, fuel-efficient aircraft and have continued to invest in a high quality product for our customers. These investments, matched with robust global demand for air travel, are paying off."

On December 3rd Emirates will launch a new service from Dubai to Houston, Texas in the US.
