Clickair to start low cost Gatwick Bilbao flights

Spanish low cost airline clickair will be starting daily flights from Gatwick to Bilbao in Northern Spain from March.

The new flights will start on 30 March when clickair takes over the Gatwick to Bilbao route from one of its founders, the Spanish airline Iberia. Outbound fares are expected to start from £32, and inbound fares from £16.

Clickair already offers daily flights from Gatwick to Seville, as well as daily flights from Heathrow to Valencia, and flights three times a week from Edinburgh to Barcelona.

Bilbao is Spain’s fifth largest city and has reinvented itself from a predominantly industrial city to a thriving modern centre for the arts and culture. The iconic titanium-clad Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry is symbolic of the new spirit of the city. There is also a modern tube network with stations designed by Sir Norman Foster. The city is popular both with people looking for a cultural holiday and for those searching for a city break with entertainment and nearby surfing beaches.

Passengers flying from Gatwick with clickair will soon be able to use the low fare airline’s click&fly online check in, which is already in use at Heathrow. click&fly allows passengers from the UK and Europe to select their seat online and print their boarding pass once the booking is confirmed.

Since it was founded in 2006 by a group of companies including Iberia and Iberostar, clickair has quickly established itself as Spain’s leading low cost airline, carrying 4.6 million passengers in 2007.

The airline has its headquarters at El Prat airport in Barcelona, and has a fleet of modern Airbus A320 aircraft. clickair has ambitions to offer flights on 70 routes to 55 Spanish and European cities by the end of 2008.
