British Grand Prix 2009

June 17, 2009

This weekend sees the British Grand Prix take to the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, with the world's leading drivers and thousands of motor enthusiasts hoping to see Jensen Button extend his lead at the top of Driver's Championship.

Following Lewis Hamilton's success in 2008, British fans will be hoping for another home success from Button, who has thus far topped the podium in six of the seven races in 2009.

The race is scheduled to be the last Formula 1 race to be held at Silverstone, with Donington Park being awarded the contract to host the event from 2010 onwards. Silverstone first hosted the event in 1948, and the modern era has seen the British Grand Prix take place at the site since 1987.

Over the course of the June 19-21 weekend, upwards of 100,000 fans will pass through the gates at Silverstone, hoping to see a race as eventful and exciting as those of yesteryear.

So, can Lewis Hamilton relive the events of 12 months ago, or will Jensen Button extend his lead?
