Fitness holidays for a perfect winter break

If you fancy a holiday getting fit while seeing the sights there are yoga breaks, tai chi experiences and even tango tasters to choose from.

Travel company Flight Centre has put together five tailor-made holidays for anyone determined to keep their New Year’s resolution to get in shape.

‘Find your chi in China’ is a five night stay in a 4 star hotel in Shanghai complete with a three hour tai chi class with prices from £635 per person including return flights. “Tai chi originated in China in the 1820s and has long been renowned for its calming benefits, but is also a great way to improve fitness and longevity,” notes the company.

Where better to take a yoga holiday than the place it was invented over 2,000 years ago? Flight Centre is offering a luxury yoga and health break to Trivandrum in India staying full board at a 5 star hotel with daily yoga sessions, Ayurvedic treatments, and meals designed to promote wellbeing. Prices start from £1,269 per person including return flights.

Capoeira is a lesser know form of exercise popular in the beautiful holiday destination of Brazil. Blending martial art, culture and game and invented by slaves in the sixteenth century, capoeira is probably best enjoyed on a great sandy beach. Flight Centre’s ‘Beautify your body in Brazil’ holiday includes seven nights in a four star hotel on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, where many capoeira schools are open to holidaymakers. Prices including return flights begin at £829.

If you’re tempted by tango the Buenos Aires Tango Experience may be perfect for you. The seven night holiday offers a three course meal and tango show and gives you the chance to learn from the tango experts in Argentina. Prices for a stay at a 3 star hotel plus return flights are from £835.

Finally, for the more adventurous fitness traveller Flight Centre is offering the chance to experience kendo, the Japanese martial art of fencing. A five night stay in a traditional Japanese hotel decorated with antiques from the Edo period plus return flights is yours from £1,029.
