Russian travel 'becoming easier'

It is becoming easier for adventurous holidaymakers to visit regional towns in Russia, a new report suggests.

Until recently, UK travellers wishing to travel to more Russian cities typically had to travel to Moscow and make arrangements there.

Now, however, Alternative Airlines reports that an explosion in the number of regional Russian carriers is making it easier for people to reach remote - but often fascinating - areas of the country.

Airlines like KD avia now offer connections to many different areas of Russia like the cities of Ufa, Samara, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Kazan, Tyumen, Volgograd, Nizhniy Novgorod and St Petersburg.

The managing director of Alternative Airlines, John Pope, commented: "Russian aviation is booming with more and more carriers acquiring new western-built aircraft.

"It is no longer the case that every passenger has to transit through Moscow to get to a major regional city, now there are many alternative routings which offer cheaper, faster and more convenient ways of flying within Russia."

Recently, KD avia began a new service between London Gatwick and its hub at Khrabrovo Airport in Kaliningrad.
