London Gatwick Airport prepares for new shuttle

London Gatwick Airport is preparing to replace the inter-terminal transit system that has been in place since 1987 as part of the airport's £1 billion investment programme.

The current system, which is thought to have covered more than two-and-a-half million miles since opening, will be removed from operation on September 28. Two new shuttles will come into service in May and July of next year, with estimates that it will be fully operational placed at August 2010.

During the interim period, a replacement bus service will operate from the upper forecourt of both terminals every three minutes during the day (between 4am and 6pm) and every six minutes during the night. Passengers are advised to allow 20 minutes for their journey between terminals.
