Pakistan flights for Leeds Bradford

[13th June 2008]

Leeds Bradford airport will get a new twice weekly service to Islamabad with Pakistan International Airlines from July.

Flights from Leeds Bradford to Islamabad stopped at the end of May when Pakistan’s second national carrier, Shaheen Air International, decided to axe its twice weekly service saying it did not have enough aircraft for the route.

The airport reported in May that it was in discussions with “alternative airlines” to re-instate the route as there was “very strong demand for a direct service to Pakistan from Leeds Bradford”.

Confirming the new airline, Leeds Bradford International Airport commercial & aviation development director, Tony Hallwood, says: “We are extremely pleased to have secured the services of Pakistan International Airlines to deliver this important flagship service. A direct flight to Islamabad, Pakistan by PIA, one of the leading international airlines, is a major achievement for the airport and we are proud of our success”.

Flights to Islamabad with PIA will operate twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2nd July “with convenient timings”.

“We look forward to introducing Leeds Bradford on Pakistan International Airline’s international route network for the first time. We have worked closely with the airport team and we are confident of success,” comments PIA UK general manager, Farooq Ibrahim.

“PIA’s flight operation on the said sector meets the demand of our customers in the Bradford and wider Yorkshire region as well as the airline’s customers in Islamabad, Pakistan,” adds PIA MD, Captain Mohammad Aijaz Haroon.
